Yanni Nicolidakis-Mustafa will speak at World Refugee Day 2026 – Strengthening Borders, Weakening Rights?, a public event hosted by the UBC Centre for Migration Studies and the Multi-Agency Partnership (MAP) BC on June 22, 2026. The event brings together lawyers, academics, advocates, and community leaders to discuss the impact of recent changes to Canada’s refugee and immigration laws.
The panel will examine Bill C-12, Strengthening Canada’s Immigration System and Borders Act, and its effects on refugee claimants, migrants, and the communities that support them. The discussion will explore how recent border reforms risk limiting important access to refugee protection and other fundamental rights.
Yanni will join a panel of speakers from the legal, settlement, and academic communities to discuss the human impact of Canada’s evolving immigration and refugee framework.
More information about the event is available through the Peter A. Allard School of Law event page.
