Mak Aruta Konefał
Legal Assistant
Mak Aruta Konefał (they/them) is a graduate of Environmental Studies at UC Santa Cruz. They also studied abroad for migrant’s rights and climate change policy at Freie Universität in Berlin. Currently, they are pursuing a Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law (G.Dip) at Queen’s University. Mak joined Edelmann & Co. in the summer of 2026 and primarily works as Connie Campbell’s legal assistant.
They have a background of non-profit organizations and grassroots activism focusing on Filipinx diaspora, im/migrant worker rights, Women and LGBTQ+ issues, disability justice, and housing security.
Raised by Bisaya and Polish immigrant parents, Mak grew up in Northern California (primarily Sacramento), Cebu Province, Philippines, and East Vancouver. Their lived experience and family’s migration story has fueled their passion for Canadian immigration, refugee, and citizenship law.
In their free time, they enjoy being a mediocre artist of many mediums, as well as spending quality time with their family, friends, and standard poodle, Kulot.
